COURT BOOKING SYSTEM - DECISION
BRS Court Booking system
Following an extended and extensive trial period and Committee deliberations it has been decided to retain the court booking system in its current format i.e. Courts 1 to 5 are bookable and Courts 6 to 9 are operated on a queue to play basis.
An overwhelming majority of members (almost 90%) who responded to the surveys in July, were in favour of retaining the system in this format.
There are some usability issues both from a member and administrative perspective and we have asked BRS to look into some changes to the system to better suit our needs.
In order to ensure that all members can access the courts on an equal footing, it has also been decided that parents may book a court on behalf of their child. However, this booking will count as part of their weekly allocation of 2 matches per week. This change to the original setup will be reviewed in the New Year in advance of the annual AGM.
NOTE: If occupying Courts 1-5 when they appear available, you should book the court via the PC in the foyer. Otherwise a registered member may book the court remotely and then legitimately claim it from you when they arrive at the Club!! This can be done from the computer in the foyer EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A REGISTERED USER

Coaching News - Gary Purcell
7th October 2013
Coaching News: Gary Purcell is moving on!
Dear member, we are sorry to report that we will be losing the expert services of Gary Purcell from our coaching team. Gary has been offered a terrific opportunity with Complete Tennis Services in Melbourne, Australia commencing in January 2014.
Gary is a dedicated, enthusiastic, organised and committed coach and it is precisely these attributes that have resulted in him being head hunted for this opportunity. Candidates from within Australia and internationally were considered but they wanted Gary. This probably comes as no surprise to those who have worked closely with Gary over many years at MLTCC. We are sorry to see him go but wish him every success in this new chapter of his career.
Gary has kindly agreed to see out the current term which gives us time to find a suitable candidate to replace him. This is despite the pressure from his new employers who wanted him on board in mid-October. We are grateful to Gary for the opportunity to plan for his departure.
We expect to advertise the role immediately and hope to have a coach in place before January.

We also had 2 other teams take part in Class 3 / 4 and Class 4 /5. Unfortunately these did not qualify for the finals but played good tennis and were great Ambassadors for the club. Our thanks to Lisa Lawless, Lisa McNamara, Des McSwiggan, Brian Redmond, Dermot McCrudden on the Class 3 / 4 Team and Dorothy Donnelly, Grainne Savage Pavesi, Jane French, Kieran Sheehan, Peter McNally and Andrew Lawless.
It is great to see how well the Malahide teams can do in these events and the importance of continuing to take part. Well Done to you all.

Mens Summer League - Finals Update
Huge congratulations to our 1st team who defeated Donnybrook 1 in Templeogue on Sunday to win the DLTC Premier Class title. The team of Colin O'Brien, James Cluskey, Stephen Nugent, Maurice Kenny (Capt.) & Niall Baragwanath, Simon Harkin & Daragh Rowan won 3-0, with Stephen Nugent winning the decisive point. A great day (and night) for the club. On the same day the 6ths and 7ths didn't quite get over the line in their finals, but both teams can be very proud of their campaigns.
I will shortly post a comprehensive report on the men's summer campaign, but for the moment I just wanted to offer my congratulations to all those who contributed to the Premier teams success, not least of whom were all those who came out to to support the team and cheer them on. I'm sure I speak for everyone in the club when I say how proud we are of the lads, it really is a stunning achievement.

Court Allocation - Queuing etiquette
Following feedback from members the queuing rule pertaining to Doubles matches has been slightly relaxed. It now reads as follows (change in Red):
Queuing Etiquette: Two players must be present, for either a Singles or Doubles match, before a name can be added to the waiting list.
Doubles matches may take to the court once two players are present. However, please note that playing time commences once these players take possession of the court and NOT when the fourth player arrives on court.
A player who has already played must stay off court for at least one hour.
Your continued cooperation with Club rules is appreciated.
